If you get it wrong, the arc becomes unstable.&#xA;Here&amp;rsquo;s the problem: when electrodes degrade too fast, you get that annoying flicker. Then, your microwatt output tanks way before the lamp is actually supposed to die. To stop that, we use high-purity fused quartz.
